South Korean startup, Bucketplace, has reportedly raised $182 million in Series D round, to accelerate its geographical expansion plans as well as hire more specialists for adding an AR feature to its home decorating and interior app OHouse.

Jay Lee, co-founder and CEO of Bucketplace, stated the startup plans to continue capitalizing on the DIY home improvement market with the fresh capital.

Being a later-stage firm, Lee added that the startup will be accelerating its growth in its base country of South Korea while also expanding to new markets like Southeast Asia, Japan, and the US.

Along with that, it will also work on developing an augmented reality (AR) feature for its platform so that users will be able to visualize décor and furniture pieces in their homes.

The round saw participation from SoftBank Ventures Asia, Korea Development Bank, BRV Capital Management, Mirae Asset Capital, Bond Capital, IMM Investment, and Vertex Growth Fund backed by Singapore-based Temasek.

The funding follows Bucketplace’s acquisition of HipVan, a Singaporean online furniture platform, a few months earlier, with Lee claiming that the startup will continue seeking acquisition opportunities as well as strategic partnerships in both local and overseas markets.

Launched in 2016, OHouse offered home improvement hobbyists and interior designers the ability to post photos of their homes so they could share their remodeling experiences. Users could then look through the various posts and directly buy items they liked from the app.

Lee stated that now the startup is aiming to provide a range of services that cover all sections involved in the residential space, such as furniture delivery, maintenance, home repairs, moving services, and even garbage collection services in addition to home improvement.

Last year, the app introduced a next-day furniture delivery service that allowed users to select at what date and time they would like to receive their items.

With the AR feature, users will be able to see how a furniture item looks in their space by uploading pictures of their homes to the app. If users want to purchase that item, they can click on it which will take them to the seller’s website.

American dating app major, Match Group, has reportedly announced the launch of a new online service called Stir, a dating app that will exclusively cater to single parents in the United States.

With the new release, the company aims to be able to address the untapped 20 million single-parent demographic that is often under-served by dating apps currently available in the market.

A key feature in the app will be ‘Stir Time’, a scheduling option to help parents overcome the difficulty of coordinating a time to date between their schedules, taking into account certain ‘parent-related’ commitments like children’s activities or other co-parenting arrangements.

The group reported that about one in four single parents, approximately 27%, found difficulty in coordinating schedules as a setback in going on dates.

With Stir Time, users will have the option to indicate what day of the week as well as what time of the day they are free, in terms like ‘morning’, ‘afternoon’, and ‘night’. This way, they will get matched with those having similar schedules.

Moreover, the app prompts users to answer questions based on what sort of relationship they are looking for that will also showcase their personality, like what they do on the weekends, what a perfect night without kids would be like, what pets they have, and so on.

Stir will also offer subscriptions with which users can see who likes them, set their profile visibility to only those that they like, rewind accidentally passed profiles, message others before being matched, get their profile boosted, and similar options.

However, apart from focusing on single parents and eliminating the possibility of being matched with someone who is not interested in someone with kids, the app does not offer much in terms of features for parents, such as background checks on potential matches.

Match Group has invested heavily in the background check service Garbo, which has been integrated into Tinder and will be incorporated in its other apps as well.

The app also does not allow users to specify the age or age range of their children and lacks advanced filtering options, like rival app Bumble has.

Samsung Electronics, the renowned South Korean electronics firm, has reportedly announced that its new Galaxy A smartphones would be unveiled on Thursday this week. The Galaxy A is the company's entry-level device, aimed at users looking for more cost-friendly smartphones with flagship specifications.

Samsung stated that it is pushing the powerful Galaxy innovations for the A series even farther, referring to the Galaxy A range as the firm's most popular smartphone category.

The series will be showcased live online on Thursday at 10 p.m. (US time).

According to Samsung, the Galaxy A lineup, which will be available in a variety of new models including the A73, A33, A53, and A23, is expected to offer cutting-edge technologies, services, and features at an affordable price.

At this year's first product release, Apple had unveiled the next-generation iPhone SE, which can be compared to the Galaxy A series.

The new iPhone SE (third-generation) is available at $429, up from $399 for the previous model. It has a single 12-megapixel rear camera, 4.7-inch display, as well as Apple's A13 CPU, which was first introduced in the iPhone 11 series.

The Galaxy A73, the highest-end model in the A-series, is rumored to have Qualcomm's Snapdragon 750G processor, a 6.7-inch screen, and a Super AMOLED display.

In March of last year, Samsung, the largest smartphone producer in the world, unveiled the Galaxy A52 and A72 smartphones at its Galaxy Awesome Unpacked online event. It was Samsung's first time hosting a large-scale Galaxy A device launch event.

The Galaxy A series, which was developed in part to address the increasing competition from Chinese competitors in the mid-and low-end smartphone market, became popular among budget-conscious customers.

As per industry tracker Omdia, Samsung's A12 model, which was launched in December 2020, was the most distributed smartphone in the world last year, with a total of approximately 51.8 million units delivered worldwide, making the organization maintain its lead in the smartphone industry.

According to Omdia, the smartphone was also the first device from the technology company to sell over 50 million units in a year.

Loco, an Indian live game streaming platform, has reportedly secured $42 million in a funding round headed by the cryptocurrency firm Hashed, with participation from Catamaran Ventures, Makers Fund, along with Korea Investment Partners. Additionally, Krafton, Lumikai, and Hiro Capital also took part in the round.

Ashwin Suresh, Loco’s founder stated that the firm will invest towards enhancing its content side, and towards technology developments around Web 3.0 as well as blockchain. The gaming company will put greater effort into collaborating with content creators and streamers, as well as up-and-coming organizations who are attempting to establish IP around gaming events and new content.

In addition, Loco is working on in-game interfaces with other overseas partners as well.

In tandem with these collaborations, the company has partnered with a number of global brands such as Logitech, NBA, and Red Bull to launch esports programs in India. After receiving an investment from South Korean gaming company, Krafton, in 2021, Loco has established a direct API link, allowing the two firms to rethink watch and play experiences for fans.

Ethan Kim, partner and co-founder of Hashed stated that this additional round of funding is expected to allow Loco to cement its leadership position in the online gaming industry and ultimately bring cutting-edge Web3 services or products to the Indian gaming community.

In June 2021, Loco received $9 million in the form of seed funding, which enabled it to test additional product features. The firm currently plans to expand and spend on improving the platform's product characteristics.

Anirudh Pandita, Loco’s co-founder, stated that the firm is allowing gamers to form their own gaming tribes, backing streamers they love and in an environment where they feel at home.

Pandita further added that Loco is aggressively revolutionizing the interactive experience for Indian gamers, and is looking forward to new investors partnering to help shape the future of e-sport entertainment.

Apple Inc., the renowned American technology organization, has reportedly announced the latest iteration of its budget iPhone, which can connect to ultrafast 5G wireless networks, an update that has been present on the firm's more expensive flagship models for over a year.

The new model is an iPhone SE, which makes this the first upgrade to the company’s bare-bones smartphone, Apple's most in-demand model, in over two years.

The upcoming iPhone SE will be listed at $429, a price increase of 8% from the previous iteration’s price tag of $399. The previous iteration was released around the early phases of the Covid-19 pandemic, approximately two years back. The latest iPhone SE will be hitting the stores starting March 18,.

The new phone was unveiled at the annual Apple Event earlier this week. However, keeping the pandemic in consideration, the company did not invite media or guests to the traditionally in-person summit that it usually holds to unveil its latest products.

This time around, the company broadcasted the event live from its Cupertino, California based head office, from the auditorium named after its co-founder Steve Jobs.

The new iPhone SE will be equipped with a faster processor, a robust touchscreen, as well as a longer battery life as compared to the earlier model, but its key selling features will probably be its connectivity with the developing 5G wireless networks along with its low price.

It's a substantial saving over the more affluent iPhone 13 lineup, which was released last fall. The iPhone 13 is available in four different versions, with the market prices ranging from $700 to $1,100. All of them, similar to the iPhone 12s, which were introduced in the fall of 2020, can smoothly connect to the 5G networks.

Tim Cook, Apple's CEO stated during the event that the company is eager for the latest iPhone SE to build on this momentum.

As per Dan Ives, Wedbush Securities analyst, Apple is expecting to sell more than 30 million units of the upcoming iPhone SE models in the following year, fulfilling a need among the middle and upper-middle-class customers who hold one of the projected 225 million iPhones that are at least three-and-a-half years old.

Meta, the American technology company formerly known as Facebook, has reportedly partnered with the Hong Kong Design Centre to introduce ‘Instagram Academy 2022’, a training program designed to offer digital skills, resources, and expertise to Hong Kong's young designers as well as brand entrepreneurs.

Between February and May, the initiative will enroll roughly 100 local young designers to participate in the initial stages of the training program.

Seven online sessions will introduce attendees to various Instagram tools and skills, along with free Instagram creativity and business tools; hands-on workshops about how to engage audiences, curate Instagram content, and drive sales; and how to use Instagram tools for business as well as creating a strategy to bring business globally.

‘Instagram Academy 2022’ is supposedly the first event of the so-called ‘Hong Kong Instagram Month’. Under the initiative, Instagram will introduce a range of products in the following weeks to foster online security and inspire video production creativity.

Jayne Leung, Meta's vice president and head of Greater China, stated that Instagram has changed the way individuals shop online, discover local businesses, select and experience different travel destinations, and also share their memories with their friends and family. It allows marketers to easily communicate their stories through photographs and videos because it is a visually rich platform.

Leung elaborated that Instagram now has over one billion active users monthly, with 90% of the demographic following at least one business. According to recent survey, over half of the respondents shop on Instagram.

According to Bernard Chan, under Secretary for trade and economic development, Hong Kong, the ability of a brand to make the most use of social networking sites, especially marketing tools on the platform, is critical to growing its brand recognition and driving client demand.

Chan further added that the program's comeback this year will greatly help local designers market their brands online, bolstering Hong Kong's reputation as a top-tier Asian metropolis for design and creativity.

British media and telecom company Virgin Media O2, has reportedly announced that it will not be charging an extra roaming fee to users traveling to the EU this year, despite many major networks announce an extra roaming fee.

The announcement follows that of EE and Vodafone, two of the UK’s biggest networks, having reintroduced roaming charges for customers traveling to the EU from January, while Three, another major UK network, will be reintroducing them in May.

O2 and Virgin Mobile, subsidiaries of Virgin Media O2, have stated that the companies will be maintaining their inclusive roaming bloc for customers so that they can travel while using their calls, text, and data as they did in the UK.

Gareth Turpin, Chief Commercial Officer, Mobile at Virgin Media O2, reassured customers that both O2 and Virgin Mobile will not be following the suit with other mobile networks in bringing back roaming fees in Europe for the customers.

Turpin added that as many of the UK citizens are looking forward to a trip abroad, the company’s customers will have one less thing to worry about regarding extra roaming charges.

For the uninitiated, roaming charges are being reintroduced in the UK following the Brexit vote and the country’s departure from the EU.

The bloc had removed such charges in earlier 2017 for customers using their phones while moving around in Europe.

EE customers, who had joined or upgraded to the network after July 7th of last year, will be charged £2 ($2.72) daily while making calls, sending texts, or using data in EU countries.

Vodafone will also apply the same charge for customers who had joined, upgraded on renewed their contract after August 11th.

EE users can avoid the daily charge by purchasing a 30-day Roam Abroad Pass for £10 ($13.58), while Vodafone customers can buy an 8-day or 15-day multipass and pay £1 a day.

Three will also introduce the £2 daily from 23rd May to customers who had joined or upgraded to the network after October 1st of last year.

Google, the Silicon Valley tech magnate, and the company behind the Android ecosystem, has reportedly filed a counterclaim as a response to Epic Games antitrust allegations against the firm.

For the uninitiated, similar to the ongoing lawsuit against Apple, Epic Games sued Google for alleged anti-competitive practices. Google, in its counterclaim, has denied Epic's charges, instead claiming that it is rather owed relief.

Google claimed that Epic Games, a multibillion-dollar organization supported by the two biggest global video game developers, violated the Google Play Developer Distribution Agreement (DDA) by letting Fortnite users who downloaded the application from Google Play to use Epic's native payment processing system.

Apparently, the situation is quite similar to what happened with App Store, where Epic Games broke its legal binding with Apple by updating its software to circumvent App Store regulations and facilitate payments via its own payment platform. As per the court's recent verdict in the Apple vs Epic lawsuit, Epic Games is entitled to pay Apple USD 6 million in financial relief.

For the record, Epic Games had delivered a Fortnite build to Google Play last year that employed Epic's own direct payments system rather than Google Play Billing. This submission was denied immediately as it violated Google's policy.

In April 2020, Epic submitted a complaint version, which Google now calls a deceptive act that is designed to provoke a litigation. The new version had supposedly concealed the Epic payment system inside an update which was sent to both Google and Apple app stores. This allowed Epic to make the switch to its in-house payment system by changing a server-side configuration without the knowledge of the two app store giants.

Seemingly, Google’s counterclaim states that Epic has benefitted from Google Play’s reliable and secure platform, which it pays a charge that is comparable to or even less than the one levied by other key platform providers. However, not satisfied with the profits, Epic got into litigation with Google that it never intended to follow through, tricking Google and hiding its true objectives in order to start a contractual and public relations battle that is still going on today. Epic’s practices have put its very own users in danger, have impacted Google, and are deserving of relief by the Court.

Meanwhile, Google has also filed its counterclaim with state’s attorney general, consumer, and developer cases.

TikTok, the global video-sharing company, has reportedly announced the rollout of a range of features to help users who are struggling with suicidal thoughts and mental health issues. The features also involve guides on wellbeing and support for people struggling with eating disorders, according to reports.

As per credible sources, these features include a search intervention that directs users to support resources when they search for terms like “suicide”. TikTok said in a statement that it is taking additional steps to make it easier to find resources for people when they need them on the platform.

The company would supposedly roll out the new resources worldwide in the following months. The resources would consist of an extended guide on eating disorders, along with a feature that directs users to local support like Crisis Text Line if they look up terms such as suicide, reports suggest.

Like its competitor social media platforms, TikTok has come under scrutiny regarding its impact on users’ mental health, particularly teenagers. Earlier this year, a report by The Prince's Trust and the Education Policy Institute evidently found that heavy social media use was damaging the mental health of teenagers.

TikTok’s announcement also came at the heels of a report by The Wall Street Journal, which indicated that Instagram has repeatedly found its platform to be harmful to teenage users’ mental health in certain situations.

The report stated that Instagram has been examining the app’s impact on younger users’ mental wellbeing for at least two years. Instagram seemingly acknowledged the existence of the research but said that the paper focused on a limited set of findings and showed them in a bad light.

The social media giant also stated that it stood by the research. Instagram further added that the research demonstrated its commitment to understanding difficult and complex issues young people struggle with and informed the work it does to help users facing these issues.

LG Chem, one of South Korea’s largest chemical company, has reportedly announced that it has developed a new type of material for foldable displays. The new material is as tough as glass while being flexible enough to be bendable in both directions without forming any creases, a first for foldable displays.

The South Korean company stated that "real folding windows" can be used for foldable smartphone displays. The company also claimed that the new material can be used for other portable devices like laptops and tablets.

A plastic film coated with the firm's own coating technology makes this new material nearly as hard as glass, even though it is as thin as existing polyimide films. The display can withstand the stress of being folded several hundreds of thousands of times. It also minimizes the formation of creases that usually appear in foldable displays that use cover windows made out of polyimide based film.

The company's real folding window is made out of polyethylene terephthalate (PET), which is coated with ultra-thin coating materials that have been developed by the firm.

This makes the material specifically stand out as it can be used in devices that are capable of being folded in both directions. For the uninitiated, a majority of foldable devices in the market currently can only be folded inwards .

The company plans to start mass-production for the new material by 2023. However, before that, it would be seeking to make the innovative product available to leading smartphone manufacturers around the world.

In an official statement, LG Chem stated that it would also work on developing another material for foldable displays, one that does not use the PET film in the middle and just utilizes the coating technology. The company elaborated that doing so would make the cover window much more thin and suitable for rollable devices.

Google has reportedly upgraded the rear camera system and improved the lenses and sensors which are now too big to slip into the conventional square. This design gives the camera system a new home with camera bar. This upcoming range has new materials and finishes such as light polished aluminum frame in the Pixel 6 Pro and matte aluminum finish in Pixel 6.

The company also announced Android 12 along with Material You, the new design language at Google I/O. Through Material You, Google is reportedly mixing color science with years of work in engineering and interaction design.

Elaborating on Tensor SoC, the company stated that the chip was supposedly built by considering how people use their phones today and how they will use them in future. The team that designed Tensor wanted to improve the capability of Pixel.

According to the company, Tensor allows it to develop Google phones that continue to improve, while leveraging on the highly powerful parts of Google. Tensor’s new security core and Titan M2, will provide the Pixel 6 with the most layers of hardware security.

Additionally, the new smartphone series is also endowed with numerous features that are powered by AI and Machine Learning (ML). It does not imply just an addition of more computing resources, but the application of ML for unlocking the specific experiences for the Pixel users.

Apple’s highly awaited budget variant of the iPhone is expected to be launched during the first half of 2022. According to reliable sources, the company is working on a new iPhone SE which will come with 5G technology as well as an updated version of the A14 Bionic chip.

This budget-friendly iPhone is expected to be powered by the A15 processor, the same chip that is said to go in next year’s premium iPhone lineup. The 5G technology will be enabled through Qualcomm’s X60 modem chip, sources claimed.

In fact, all of Apple’s next year’s lineup will be 5G-enabled phones which are likely to be introduced in 2022. The company will not introduce the updated version of the iPhone Mini in 2022 after the premium smartphone failed to catch on with consumers.

Similar to the previous SE model, the upcoming budget-friendly iPhone will be a refreshed version of the iPhone 8, having a 4.7 inch LCD. Meanwhile, Apple is also likely to be preparing updated versions of its other products that would be launched in the second half of 2021.

Mass production of this year’s upcoming iPhones is also likely to begin in August, which is in line with the company’s usual pre-pandemic production timetable.

Oppo, Samsung, and Xiaomi were some of the first smartphone makers to introduce 5G-enabled devices in 2019. These Apple rivals have also introduced affordable 5G-capable smartphones, while the iPhone maker has been relatively late in introducing such devices.

In related news, Apple has begun offering the Lossless Audio feature as well as Dolby Atmos support to Indian consumers. The feature was first introduced last year, and most markets began receiving the update in June this year, especially following the WWDC 2021 event.

This update is not just limited to iPhone users. The company revealed that Apple Music users on Android phones will also receive the LossLess Audio feature.

Taking smartphone technology to a whole new level, Chinese technology giant Vivo is working on a new smartphone that comes with a detachable flying camera system. This unique camera module can be detached from the device and can fly like a drone to capture images and videos.

Interestingly, the smartphone resembles a design that is similar to most other smartphones that are available in the market. However, the device is equipped with added components like a dual-camera setup, four propellers, three proximity sensors, and an additional battery unit. These components are hidden inside the device and can slide out from the top of the smartphone.

After being detached, users can fly the camera module, thanks to its four integrated propellers. The drone-like camera will likely be controlled using the smartphone and can capture images and videos from unique angles.

As mentioned in the patent, the module will have two cameras, with one being placed at the top and the other at the front, offering flexibility to users to capture images from different angles when the drone is airborne.

Countering the issue of stabilization during wind turbulence, Vivo could include its gimbal-stabilized camera system which was first launched last year with its X50 device. While for dodging obstacles, the camera module will use proximity sensors to detect nearby objects and to prevent collision.

Indeed, Vivo has been working on some unique and ambitious projects in the smartphone arena in the past few years. Take for instance, the company has filed patents from smartphone technology like color-changing back panel and a rotatable physical keyboard.

With its latest smartphone rigged with a flying camera, the company could revolutionize the way consumers capture videos and images on their smartphone and can unlock various new opportunities in the industry.

Instagram, the Facebook-owned photo and video sharing social networking service, is reportedly offering its customers the option to hide the total number of likes they get on their posts on the platform.

The main purpose behind this feature is to alleviate the pressurize the users experience on the app, as per Instagram.

The users who have enabled this feature would just be able to see the username of one of the followers who has liked the particular post along with an “and others” label, instead of number of likes.

In its research as well as testing, the platform stated that removing number of likes had very little impact on wellbeing or behavior, after concerns that using the app might be associated to insecurity and weak mental health.

A recent study from Oxford Internet Institute discovered that there was very little association between mental health and social media usage among teenagers.

The new feature could be switched on or off at any time. To change it, users just need to go to settings, click on the new posts section and select hide like as well as view counts.

Even if any user has like counts feature enabled, they would not be able to see the total number of likes on posts or accounts that have chosen the hidden option. Users in fact would also have the option of hiding like counts on a specific post, before or after it goes live on the app.

Earlier this year, various concerns were brought up over the leaked ideas to design a version of the social media platform for children.

Adam Mosseri, head, Instagram, stated that plans to create a new Instagram version for children under 13 years of age were not fully grown, explaining that it was quite tough to verify different age groups, since children often did not have any IDs.

Tech giant Apple is reportedly planning to launch its long-rumored foldable phone by 2023. Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo believes that the smartphone giant plans to debut a proprietary 8-inch foldable iPhone. Other reports also suggest that Apple may be aiming to sell 15-20 million units in the first year of the product launch.

Kuo had apparently hinted at the folding iPhone possibility back in March, although the latest reports have unveiled more details on suppliers. Kuo’s latest report supposedly speculates that Samsung Display will supply the QHD+ flexible OLED, whereas Samsung Foundry will supply the DDI display controller.

Kuo also claims that the iPhone maker will use TPK-sourced silver nanowire touch tech for its several advantages over Samsung’s Y-Octa technology.

While they are speculations at the moment, Kuo’s reports gain more credibility from the other details provided. The analyst indicated that Oppo, Xiaomi, Vivo, and Honor could debut new foldable phone models in the second half of 2021 or early 2022. Additionally, he expects these companies to increase shipments of foldable phones to 17 million units by 2022 depending on improvement in component shortages, reports suggest.

Evidently, if these events occur, Kuo speculates that foldable phones could become the next innovatory selling point of high-end phones. Thus, Apple would presumably want to be prepared to introduce its own model in the market.

However, Kuo reportedly also suggested that if Apple’s foldable devices don’t attract enough customers, the tech giant may hit the brakes on the project.

In another news, foldable phones pioneer Samsung has reportedly filed a patent for its “foldable electronic device including electronic pen.”

Apparently, the screens will have some space to accommodate the stylus. However, the most interesting aspect of the new phone, a ‘multi-foldable device,’ is that it would feature three display screens, as per reports.

The South Korean smartphone maker kickstarted the foldable phones business with its Galaxy Fold, followed by the Galaxy Z Flip and the Galaxy Z Fold 2.

Technology major, Google, is reportedly planning to cut the fee that it takes from Google Play store Android app developers in half, parroting a similar step taken by Apple Inc. last year. Apparently, this move comes as a result of the legal challenges the two companies are facing over the fees.

Reportedly, Google and Apple both are facing lawsuits from Fortnite creator Epic Games, after Fortnite was removed from both Apple App Store and Google Play Store last year in August for allegedly bypassing the companies’ in-app payment procedures, favoring its own low cost direct billing, and preventing Apple and Google from taking their share.

Sources have confirmed that the move, announced by the company will be effective from July. The amount taken from in-app purchases, on the Google Play store is expected to reduce by 30% to 15% for the first USD 1 million of revenue earned by the developers every year. In this regard, Sameer Samat, Google’s vice president, product management stated that this indicates that 99% of developers worldwide would witness 50% cut in the fees.

Samat further stated that these funds can help developers scale up their growth by hiring more engineers, increasing the marketing staff, expanding the server capacity and more. The fee returning to 30% after the first USD 1 million and applying it to all the developers and not just to the ones who make less than USD 1 million per year, was a fair way, Samat added.

Samat also added that Android and Google Play have always taken inputs from their developer partners around the world and the firm continues to take their input into consideration and will continue to do so while building and running the ecosystem.

Responding to the announcement, Epic Games spokeswoman stated that the fee reduction might relieve some part of the financial strain that developers had been facing, however it did not resolve the root of the problem. Whether the fee is 15% or 30%, developers are forced to use Google’s in-app payment services, she added.

American multinational tech giant Apple Inc. has reportedly introduced new security updates for its electronics line up Apple Watches, Macs, iPads, and iPhones. Although there are no new features, Apple claims these updates to be important security patches and recommends users install them soon.

While iPads and iPhones are updated to iPadOS and iOS 14.4.1, the macOS has been updated to 11.2.3 and watch OS with 7.3.2, as a part of these security fixes. Older versions of macOS can also install the latest versions of Apple’s graphical web browser Safari, updating the version to 14.0.3.

These new security patches will address the same vulnerability issue, particularly a memory corruption problem in WebKit. For those unaware, Webkit is the primary engine that powers the Safari browser.

This bug can be activated by opening a malicious web page which can apparently exploit the vulnerability. This allows an attacker to run malicious code on the affected Apple devices.

These bugs were first reported by Microsoft and Google, however, initially were not believed to be exploited by malicious hackers.

Apple had released iOS 14.4 update to fix around three WebKit vulnerabilities that have been actively exploited. These bugs were then chained together to break into the iPhone software.

Meanwhile, Apple has confirmed that it will start producing iPhone 12 in India. It is worth noting that the tech giant has been shifting some of its production to India from China.

The company currently developers the iPhone Se, iPhone 11, and the iPhone XR in India, through its contract manufacturing partners, Wistron Corporation and Foxconn Technology Group.

Consumer electronics and mobile communications major, Oppo, has reportedly emerged as the best-selling brand in China for the first time ever, surpassing Huawei. According to the credible sources, Oppo has captured 21 percent China’s smartphone market in January, followed by Vivo and Huawei who both accounted for 20 percent of the market share.

Meanwhile, Apple and Xiaomi managed to secure a position in the top five by holding 16 percent share each. It has been reported that Oppo’s sales increased 26 percent year on year and rose 33 percent from the previous month.

Sources have claimed that the launch of new Reno 5 series by Oppo has been a great success as the smartphones offered better specifications at an affordable price point as compared to the company’s previous Reno 4 range.

For Oppo to gain a majority market share in China, other smartphone companies such as Huawei have to lose if first and reports have shown that Huawei’s recent smartphone issues are taking effect in China as well.

The technology major is increasingly focusing on the premium market on account of the shortage of components caused by US sanctions. As a result, Chinese distributors seem to have shifted their focus on other brands for volume.

The company’s decision to sell its Honor smartphone business, which was triggered by the US sanctions, is expected to reduce its market share even further as Honor has now become its competitor rather than an asset.

Reportedly, these figures are just for one month, and Huawei’s share of the market is expected to decline further throughout 2021.

Oppo is anticipated to capitalize on this opportunity with the launch of its novel flagship smartphone, the Find X3 Pro, which is going to be announced officially on Thursday. The company has also tweeted a teaser for consumers to get an early look at its latest offering.

According to credible sources, over 29 million smartphone owners in the UK are might to be entitled for a redress of up to £30 each from American multinational semiconductor company, Qualcomm, provided the legal appeal filed by the watchdog Which? turns out to be successful.

It has been reported that Which? has accused the chipmaker of allegedly violating the competition law of the UK by taking advantage of its dominant position in patent licensing and chip markets. The watchdog has claimed that Qualcomm charged excessive fees to the manufacturers, which in turn were passed on to the consumers in terms of high smartphone prices.

For the uninitiated, Which? has been involved in claiming damages for all the impacted Samsung and Apple smartphones that were bought since 1 October 2015.

Speaking on the matter, Anabel Hoult, chief executive of Which? stated that the organization believes that Qualcomm follows anti-competitive practices and has taken around £480 million out of consumers’ pockets so far. Hoult also added that Which? is sending clear warning that it is prepared to act in case companies such as Qualcomm carry out unfair practices that put consumers at loss.

For the record, Qualcomm, one of the largest manufacturers of mobile phone chips in the world has been charged with allegations regarding its anti-competitive conduct in the past as well. Citing an instance, in 2018, the European Commission penalized the firm with €997million (£858 million) for breaching competition laws in a series of deals that it made with Apple Inc.

In 2019, after a four-year long investigation, the firm was fined with another €242 million by the European Commission for exploiting its dominance in 3G chipset industry. Reportedly, the company is appealing against both the rulings.

Apart from Europe, the company had also faced legal action in the US when the Federal Trade Commission sued it for following manipulative practices to get its technology licensed in 2017, but the firm got the case closed last year.

American multinational telecommunications major, Motorola, has reportedly announced its plans to launch two new budget phones, namely the Moto G10 and the Moto G30, in European market, both in the price range of below €200. Its G30 model offers screen with a refresh rate of 90Hz along with a 5,000mAh battery with fast charging of 15W.

These new specifications are supposedly drawing in immense consumer attention as these two features are not commonly seen in this price range.

The 6.5-inch display incorporated in G30 is only 720p, however, its other specifications such as IP52 dust and splash resistance, 128GB of built-in storage expandable via microSD, and 6GB of RAM are highly alluring. Speaking of the phone’s camera, its 64-megapixel main camera produces images of 16-megapixel resolution, along with an 8-megapixel ultrawide, 2-megapixel depth sensor and 2-megapixel macro camera with selfie camera of 13-megapixel around front.

Other specs include 3.5mm headphone jack, Snapdragon 662 chipset, and Android 11 OS, which comes in as stock . The phone is priced at €179.

On the other hand, the Moto G10 seems somewhat less equipped as it comes with a less powerful Snapdragon 460 processor, 6.5-inch 720p screen, 4GB of RAM, and standard refresh rate of 60Hz. It has main camera of 48-megapixel and selfie camera of 8-megapixel resolution.

Similar to the G30, it offers 5,000mAh battery, however it charges relatively slower at 10W. While the European version contains 5,000mAh battery, the version intended to be sold in India is expected to include a bigger 6,000mAh battery having 15W charging. Price of the European variant is €149.

For the record, fast refresh rate screens which make animations and scrolling smooth are fairly common in flagship phones. Consequently, increasing incorporation of this technology in budget phones does not come as a surprise.

For instance, OnePlus Nord N10 5G, worth $300, has a 90Hz screen and upcoming Samsung Galaxy A52 and A72 are expected to consist of this technology as well. However, the G30 is one of the most affordable to this feature. Seemingly, the market is on its way to see the 90Hz screens become the new normal at every pricing level.

It has been reported that the Moto G10 and the Moto G30 are available for sale on the company’s sites for the UK and Germany and will enter other markets across Europe this spring.
